Situation:

I joined the Meta View team in the final stretch of launching their 0-1 companion app for Ray-Ban smart glasses. Although page designs were already created, there was no existing design system or component library in place. The team needed to organize and streamline design elements for a consistent app experience. Additionally, the marketing team required rapid assets and a clearer understanding of the app’s functionality to support in-store and digital promotions.

Task:

My primary task was to develop a robust design system from scratch, including building a pixel-perfect component library. This system needed to support all the page designs, accommodate dark and light modes, and cover multiple sizing and variant options to facilitate future expansion. I was also tasked with bridging the gap between product and marketing teams, providing them with assets and insights to ensure cohesive promotional materials.

Action:

  • I built a comprehensive component library with all possible variants, ensuring everything was pixel-perfect and well-documented. This included variants for dark mode, light mode, and adaptable sizing to allow easier creation of future pages.
  • To support future scalability, I documented each component thoroughly, providing detailed specifications on how to use them effectively within the design system.
  • I collaborated closely with the marketing team, helping them understand the app’s key features and functionality. This enabled me to deliver rapid assets for both in-store promotions and digital marketing campaigns, ensuring a seamless and cohesive brand message.

Result:

The app launched smoothly, with a cohesive design system that ensured consistency across all platforms. The component library I developed streamlined the future design process and facilitated easier creation of new features. Marketing had the assets they needed to promote the app effectively, creating a unified brand experience across physical and digital touchpoints. The design system supported both the product and marketing teams, ensuring long-term scalability and success.
